This ZentRa mantel clock combines the clean geometry of the Mid-Century period with a softly curved case. The warm wood, dark sides and gold-coloured trim frame the light-coloured dial. Its slim, slightly splayed brass feet are a characteristic design feature of the 1960s and give the clock an elegant, almost floating appearance.

At the centre is the trapezoidal dial, with its light-coloured chapter ring and bold hour markers. The ZentRa lettering identifies the brand for which the clock was made. Inside is a mechanical Hermle movement with a floating balance escapement and striking mechanism.

With its balanced shape and warm colours, the clock makes a distinctive accent on a sideboard, chest of drawers or shelf.

Origin and dating

The clock dates from the 1960s. It was made by Uhrenfabrik Franz Hermle & Sohn in Reichenbach am Heuberg for ZentRa-Markenuhren GmbH in Cologne.

Its curved case, geometric dial surround and gold-coloured details reflect the design style of the Mid-Century period.

Movement and technology

Inside is a mechanical Hermle movement, calibre 130-020, with a floating balance escapement and striking mechanism.

The floating balance escapement works without a conventional pendulum. A mechanical oscillating system regulates the timekeeping.

The striking mechanism sounds on a gong with three rods. The clock strikes the number of hours on the hour and once on the half-hour.

The movement has been restored, checked and adjusted.

Case, dial and design

The case has a broad, softly curved shape, with dark sides and a warm, grained wood front. Gold-coloured trim follows the contours of the case and frames the dial.

The light-coloured, trapezoidal chapter ring features dark, elongated hour markers. The wood-coloured centre holds the hands, two winding apertures and the ZentRa lettering.

Four slim, slightly splayed brass feet lift the case subtly above the surface. The combination of wood, dark sides and gold-coloured accents gives the clock its distinctive Mid-Century character.

Condition and restoration

The clock has been restored, checked and adjusted. It is offered with the applicable statutory warranty.

Further signs of age and use may be present. Please also refer to the product photographs, which form part of the description.

Operation

The movement is wound with a winding key. The striking mechanism sounds the corresponding number of hours on the hour and one strike on the gong at the half-hour.

The correct winding key and written instructions for setting up and operating the clock are included.

You can watch and listen to the clock and its striking mechanism in our video.
