Hermle Table Clock with Bim-Bam Chime and Electric Winding, 1960s
Before shipping, every clock is carefully checked once more and gently prepared for its next journey.
With its distinctive case shape and warm wood tones, this Hermle table clock brings the understated elegance of 1960s interiors into the home. The trapezoidal case, which widens towards the top, gives it a striking silhouette. Its angled sides frame the light dial, while slender brass feet lend the clock a light, almost floating appearance.
The dark wood forms a warm frame around the cream-coloured dial with its fine hour markers. Dark hands with gold-tone accents and the brass-coloured bezel complement the clean design. The clock is both distinctive and restrained, and fits beautifully on a smaller chest of drawers or a narrow sideboard.
Displayed alongside a framed family photograph, a delicate crocheted doily or a summer landscape, it creates a personal little corner of the home. The familiar Bim-Bam chime may bring back memories of family outings, old holiday photographs and stories from years gone by.
Origin and dating
This Hermle table clock dates from the 1960s. The Franz Hermle & Son clock factory was based in Reichenbach am Heuberg, Baden-Württemberg, and is known for its high-quality clock movements.
The clean case shape, warm wood and brass-coloured details reflect the design language of the post-war era. Its unusual silhouette, widening towards the top, gives the clock its distinctive character.
Movement and mechanism
Inside is the mechanical Hermle movement, Calibre 530-020, with a floating-balance system. An electric motor winds the movement and operates the chime. Whenever the chime sounds, the movement is wound at the same time.
The Bim-Bam chime sounds on three rods: once on the half hour and, on the hour, the corresponding number of times for the hour.
The clock requires one D-cell battery, which is not included.
Case, dial and design
The dark brown wooden case widens towards the top and is defined by its angled sides. The cream-coloured dial, with fine hour markers, dark hands and gold-tone accents, sits within a brass-coloured bezel. Slender brass feet give the table clock a light and elegant appearance.
Condition and servicing
The movement was completely disassembled in our workshop, thoroughly cleaned and serviced, reassembled, professionally lubricated and regulated. The clock was tested after servicing and keeps very good time.
The clock is in very good condition overall. Minor signs of age and use may be present; the photographs show the clock’s condition.
Operation
The electric motor winds the movement and is coupled to the chime mechanism. Automatic winding therefore works only when the chime is functioning. If you would prefer the clock without its chime, we can deactivate it before shipping.
You can watch the clock in operation and hear its chime in our video.
