This elegant Hermle mantel clock from the 1960s is a fine example of Mid-Century living. Its gently curved, almost sculptural wooden case gives it a soft, harmonious presence. The warm brown wood contrasts beautifully with the gold-coloured dial and light hour markers. The clock feels refined yet welcoming, with a feminine lightness that brings calm and style to a room without demanding attention.

Its clear design brings together the distinctive forms of the 1960s and traditional German clockmaking. Placed on a living-room chest of drawers, a dining-room sideboard or a desk, it adds a warm, nostalgic accent. It looks especially at home alongside ceramics, books or a small arrangement of flowers.

Origin and period

This mantel clock was made in the 1960s by the clockmaking company Franz Hermle & Son in Reichenbach am Heuberg, on the Swabian Alb in Germany. For generations, Hermle has been associated with German clockmaking and is known for its precise movements and timeless designs.

During the 1950s and 1960s, German manufacturers combined modern, flowing forms with careful craftsmanship. The curved case and harmonious combination of wood and brass tones make this clock an authentic home accessory from its period.

Movement and mechanism

The clock retains its original mechanical Hermle movement with a floating balance. The existing movement has no chime. The clock is wound with the supplied key.

We completely disassembled the movement in our workshop, cleaned it thoroughly, lubricated it correctly and carefully adjusted it. After servicing, the clock runs reliably and evenly.

This allows it to continue doing what it was made to do: keep time and accompany a home for many years to come.

Case, dial and design

The dark brown wooden case has a gently curved shape, accented by fine brass-coloured trim. The round dial is set prominently into the front of the case. Its light-coloured chapter ring is paired with gold-coloured numerals and hands. The domed glass adds depth to the face.

Its balanced proportions and warm colours work well with Mid-Century furniture, classic wooden pieces and a personal, understated interior.

Condition and restoration

The clock has been carefully restored and is in excellent condition for its age. The case has been cleaned and refinished; the mechanical movement has been serviced, properly lubricated and tested.

There is slight discolouration on the ring around the hour markers. Other age-related signs of use may also be present. The photographs form part of the description.

Operation

The clock is wound mechanically with the supplied winding key. A written guide to setting up and operating the clock is included.

Option to convert to a modern quartz movement

If you prefer not to hear the ticking or would like to place the clock in a quiet area, it can be converted to a modern quartz movement. For this clock, the conversion is available with or without an electronic chime. Please add the desired conversion option to your cart in addition to the clock.

Please note: The conversion is a custom service made to order and cannot be reversed. We therefore cannot accept returns or cancellations for a clock converted to order.
